Job Description
J&A is hiring qualified individuals at the Forestry
Technician level to join our Forestry Team in Ukiah,
CA. This is a permanent, non-exempt position. The
successful candidate will work both independently and
as part of a team to meet project goals under the
supervision of a Registered Professional Forester
(RPF). The ideal candidate is adaptable, possesses
strong communication and problem-solving skills, and
will be willing to occasionally travel for work.
Professional duties will cover a wide array of
forestry and biological assignments both in and out of
the field. The position requires an individual
capable of working in remote, rugged locations on
steep and brushy terrain, sometimes in inclement
weather.
Responsibilities
• Field layout of forestry projects, including timber
marking and watercourse buffer flagging
• Preparation of permit applications, reports, and
other documentation
• Forest inventory data collection and analysis
• Forest/rural road assessment and monitoring
• Biological and botanical surveying
• GIS mapping and field navigation
Qualifications
• B.S. in Forestry or closely related field preferred
or A.S. in Forestry/Natural Resources
• Ability to work alone and with others in remote and
steep terrain
• Valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record
• Ability to safely operate 4WD pickup and ATV (ATV
training can be provided)
• Knowledge of forestry principles and techniques
• Familiarity with North Coast species and ecology

Forester – RPF
Ukiah, CA
Job Description
J&A is hiring a Registered Professional Forester
(RPF) to join our Forestry Team in Ukiah, CA. This is
a permanent, exempt position. J&A RPFs work on a wide
range of forestry projects to meet the management
objectives of our diverse client base. Projects are
based primarily in the Mendocino-Lake-Sonoma County
region, with occasional out-of-town work. The ideal
candidate is an adaptable self-starter with strong
technical writing, communication, and problem-solving
skills. Must be in good standing with the Board of
Forestry with a good working relationship with State
natural resource management agencies.
Responsibilities
• Development of timber harvesting permits
(THPs/NTMPs/EXs), Forest Management Plans (FMPs), fuel
reduction plans, and other CEQA and FEMA-compliant
documentation
• Design and implementation of forest inventories and
timber appraisals
• Administration of timber operations and fuels
treatment activities
• Supervision and training of forestry technicians, as
needed
• Forest/rural roads assessments, including the
development of erosion control plans (ECPs), ECP
monitoring, and Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA)
Agreements
• Growth and yield modeling and sustained yield
planning
• GIS analysis and map creation

Utility Forester – Registered Professional Forester
(RPF) to join our Forestry Team in Ukiah, CA. This is
a permanent, exempt position. J&A Utility Foresters,
who hold a California Registered Professional Forester
license, primarily draft and submit Utility Exemptions
and Emergency Notices to meet the objectives of
various utility companies throughout California. The
ideal candidate is an adaptable self-starter with
strong communication and problem-solving skills, who
is willing to regularly travel for work. The Utility
Forester – RPF is responsible for all facets of
contract administration and project management.
Primary Responsibilities
• Development and submittal of Utility Exemptions and
Emergency Notices
• Administration of timber operations and fuel

• Supervision of forestry technicians
• GIS analysis and mapping
Other Responsibilities
Beyond the Primary Responsibilities, team members in
this position will occasionally be asked to contribute
